SUMMARY:Coniston Fells
DESCRIPTION:Coniston Fells\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout\n\n\n\nThe Old Man of Coniston\, is an iconic 803-metre peak that towers above the surrounding landscape. The summit route is a moderate climb\, with a few rocky sections\, but the views at the top of Coniston Water and the surrounding fells are worth the effort. \n\n\n\nWe then continue to Swirl How via Brim Fell\, where you will find a variety of stunning lakeside views\, rocky crags and heather-clad slopes. From Swirl How\, you’ll make your way to Wetherlam\, the highest peak in the Coniston Fells. \n\n\n\nThe Coniston Fells offer a fantastic experience for any walker\, with its diverse range of terrain and stunning views. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHike Stats\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent Type: Medium Hike \n\n\n\nDistance: 9 miles \n\n\n\nDifficulty: 3/5 – Good level of fitness required \n\n\n\nDuration: Approximately 5 hours including lunch and breaks \n\n\n\nPeaks: The Old Man of Coniston\, Brim Fell\, Swirl How\, Wetherlam \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhere to Meet\n\n\n\nWe will be meeting at the Walna Scar car park at 08:00am\, aiming to commence the walk at 08:30am. Overflow parking is on the same road at: Old Station Car Park\, Old Furness Road\, Coniston\, LA21 8HU \n\n\n\nIt is important to note that mobile phone signal can be very limited in the Lake District national park with the other challenge of some roads not actually being listed on Google Maps. \n\n\n\nFor this reason\, we would recommend saving “Cumbria” as a offline map to your mobile device\, allowing turn by turn navigation even with no mobile internet. If you are unsure how to do this\, please read our blog post here. \n\n\n\nWe also recommend downloading the what3words app to your mobile phone. This allows navigation to unlisted roads/places using simply a three word phrase. \n\n\n\nwhat3words phrase: ///requiring.tulip.spotty \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nCheck out our full calendar\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe have a wide selection of different walks and hikes running throughout the whole season. Click the below link to view our full calendar of guided walks we currently have planned. \n\n\n\n\nView All Guided Walks\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFaqs\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPlease take some time to read our FAQs. If the question you need answering is not listed\, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us for more information. \n\n\n\n\n\nCan I bring my dog? \nWell trained dogs are allowed on our low level walks only. \n\n\n\n\nWhat is your refund/cancellation policy? \nOur full refund and cancellation policy can be found here. \n\n\n\n\nIs there a minimum age limit? \nOn our scramble and advanced hikes the minimum age is 16 accompanied by an adult. For our low-level walks all ages are welcome with under 16s being accompanied by an adult. \n\n\n\n\nWhat kit do I need ? \nA full required kit list can be found below. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nKit List\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMake sure you have all items with you before attending one of our guided walks. These will be checked before starting and entry refused in some cases. \n\n\n\n\n\nWaterproof Jacket & Trousers \nEven if it is forecast blue skies all day the Lake District is known for its rapidly changing weather conditions. Attendees should be prepared for these sudden weather changes bringing appropriate waterproof jackets and over trousers. \n\n\n\n\nWarm clothing \nWhen it comes to hiking\, layering is key to staying comfortable and safe on the trail. The layering system is a way to dress in layers that can be added or removed as the temperature and activity level change. It allows you to adapt to the changing conditions and stay comfortable throughout your hike. For a full breakdown\, take a look at our blog post here. \n\n\n\n\nHiking boots/Trail Shoes \nHiking boots or trail shoes are essential\, strictly no wellies. \n\n\n\n\nRucksack \nWe recommend a minimum of 20L rucksack will be needed to carry all items necessary for one of our guided walks. \n\n\n\n\nWater \nFor our medium hikes and scrambles we would recommend carrying a minimum of 1L of water. On the Low Level walks 500ml should suffice. \n\n\n\n\nHead torch \nThis is a critical piece of equipment even for walks that will be starting during daylight hours. \n\n\n\n\nPacked Lunch \nFood for half way break\, giving some much needed energy for the descent.
