Langdale Valley Guided Outdoors - 5 Must Do Lake District Walks

1. The Great Langdale Valley Walk

This is a great route for those looking for a longer walk. It takes you along the banks of one of the area’s most beautiful valleys, through lush green pastures and past majestic waterfalls. This picturesque route passes through some of the oldest woodland in the Lake District, and is also home to a variety of wildlife. The walk is around 10 miles in total and can be completed in around 4-6 hours, depending on how many stops you take.

2. The Ullswater Way

This is a great route for those who want to take in some of the area’s most spectacular scenery. The walk follows the river Ullswater, taking in the stunning views of the surrounding mountains and lakes. It’s a particularly popular route with photographers, and is also a great option for birdwatchers. The route is around 11 miles in total and can be completed in around 6-7 hours.

3. The Old Man of Coniston

This is a great walk for those seeking a challenge. The route takes you to the summit of the Old Man of Coniston, which stands at 803 metres tall. This iconic peak is the highest in the Southern Fells, and the route offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The walk is around 10 miles in total and can be completed in around 7-8 hours

4. Helvellyn via Striding Edge

Summiting Helvellyn is a memorable and challenging walk, which really is a must-do for any outdoor enthusiast. The route takes you to the summit of Helvellyn, via the iconic Striding Edge. A ridge route which is a favourite among experienced Lake District walkers, and is not for the faint-hearted. The walk is around 8 miles in total and can be completed in around 6-7 hours. We would recommend this to be only undertaken by experienced hikers or under supervision of a guide for your first attempt.

5. Catbells

A great route for those looking for a shorter, but still very rewarding walk. Taking you to the summit of Catbells, which stands at 451 meters tall offering fantastic views of the surrounding lakes and fells. This is a popular route for families and beginners, at around 4 miles in total, being completed in around 2-3 hours
